The Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1 team is one of the most successful and influential teams in Formula 1 history. Its heritage stretches back to the beginnings of motorsport and continues to maintain a dominant presence in the modern era.

Mercedes-Benz made its Formula 1 debut in 1954, winning the drivers' title with Juan Manuel Fangio. Fangio repeated the success in 1955, but the German manufacturer withdrew from the competition due to the tragic accident at the 24 Hours of Le Mans that same year.

In the 1990s, Mercedes returned to Formula 1 as an engine supplier, partnering with Sauber and later with McLaren, with whom it won the drivers' title in 1998 with Mika Häkkinen and in 2008 with Lewis Hamilton. In 2010, Mercedes took over the world championship-winning Brawn GP team and returned as a factory constructor with drivers such as Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg.

With the introduction of hybrid engines in 2014, Mercedes began a period of absolute dominance, winning eight consecutive constructors' titles (2014–2021) and seven drivers' titles, six with Lewis Hamilton and one with Nico Rosberg in 2016.

The 2022 rule changes presented new challenges, and Mercedes struggled to maintain its lead. Nevertheless, the team continued to fight at the front, and George Russell took his first F1 victory in 2022.
